This introspective work acknowledges the ethically fraught terrain of equity and widening participation outreach. It resists positioning stakeholders of practice as research participants, instead folding the research gaze back onto the practitioner-authors and their ‘unfinishedness’. Dialogic relation, critical reflection, and then interrogation of recorded versions of these relations and reflections, are the main methods of enquiry as we extensively contextualise and interrogate our practices. The dynamics producing and/or limiting the possibility of praxis that emerge include enabling and disabling power relations, resistance of hegemonic time structures, and co-developing dispositions of critical hope and unfinishedness to sustain provocation of the practitioner imagination. We carefully advocate for developing a generative instability; a contextually aware set of practices and meta-practices; a praxis that is continually and explicitly (re)situated in open, social, messy programmatic contexts.]]> Wed 24 May 2023 11:54:33 AEST ]]> Widening participation practice and research in the ‘Third Space’ https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39412 Wed 15 Jun 2022 09:25:27 AEST ]]> Connecting Research, Policy and Practice: Praxis-based studies of widening participation in higher education https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39414 Wed 15 Jun 2022 08:46:35 AEST ]]> Overcoming adversity: The strengths of care leavers in Australian higher education https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39410 Wed 15 Jun 2022 08:41:55 AEST ]]> Supporting students from equity groups: experiences of staff and considerations for institutions https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:50923 Wed 13 Mar 2024 19:07:07 AEDT ]]> Obscenity and fabrication in equity and widening participation methodologies https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:40822 Wed 13 Mar 2024 08:47:44 AEDT ]]> On ‘being first’: the case for first-generation status in Australian higher education equity policy https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:40827 Wed 13 Mar 2024 08:04:03 AEDT ]]> Evaluation for equity: reclaiming evaluation by striving towards counter-hegemonic democratic practices https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:44741 Wed 13 Mar 2024 07:52:00 AEDT ]]> Sociological insights: Designing pedagogically sound blended learning programs in enabling contexts https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55659 Wed 12 Jun 2024 19:00:38 AEST ]]> Widening student participation in higher education through online enabling education https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18252 Wed 11 Apr 2018 15:57:33 AEST ]]> Getting into uni in England and Australia: who you know, what you know or knowing the ropes? https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:26410 Wed 11 Apr 2018 13:04:25 AEST ]]> Family and social capital for the success of non-traditional students in higher education https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35656 Wed 02 Oct 2019 12:09:55 AEST ]]> The invisibility of academic reading as social practice and its implications for equity in higher education: a scoping study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42404 Tue 23 Aug 2022 08:48:19 AEST ]]> Conceptualising and Building Trust to Enhance the Engagement and Achievement of Under-Served Students https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:52100 Tue 18 Jun 2024 13:43:10 AEST ]]> 'Hard' and 'soft' aspects of learning as investment: opening up the neo-liberal view of a programme with 'high' levels of attrition https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25557 Tue 17 Jan 2017 10:54:19 AEDT ]]> Policy misrecognitions and paradoxes: developing more contextually attuned access and equity policies in Australian higher education https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:41936 Tue 16 Aug 2022 11:57:50 AEST ]]> New possibilities for engaging school teachers in widening participation: professional development to support student aspirations https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:54586 Tue 14 May 2024 15:37:24 AEST ]]> The inedito viavel (untested feasibility) of practitioner imaginations: Reflections on the challenges and possibilities of dialogic praxis for equity and widening participation https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39418 Tue 14 Jun 2022 16:02:08 AEST ]]> The role of higher education in facilitating social mobility https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39419 Tue 14 Jun 2022 15:43:20 AEST ]]> Fairness and inclusion: Online learning as an enabler of Australian higher education policies aimed at student equity and social justice https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39396 Tue 07 Jun 2022 20:04:35 AEST ]]> Increasing regional student participation in higher education through innovative university outreach https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39392 Tue 07 Jun 2022 19:50:02 AEST ]]> What are we missing? The current research contributes knowledge by investigating factors that lead students to enrol in higher education. The study aimed to examine how the Australian federal government's 'Widening Participation' agenda has affected Australians' perception of higher education. It is important to examine how enrolment of non-traditional students has changed throughout the last fifty years, whether and how the Widening Participation agenda influenced enrolment of students and students' perceptions of the factors that led to their enrolment post completion of an enabling program. The research argues that the concept of a 'traditional' student enrolled in higher education is outdated and that 'non-traditional' students are now the majority.]]>
